PRESS RELEASE

Local Chocolatier Brings Home the Gold!

30th August 2006

Local Chocolatier, Bala Croman of The Chocolate Cellar, has won the Gold Award in the Great Taste Awards.

The Great Taste Awards, run by the Guild of Fine Food Retailers, are regarded as the "Oscars" of the fine food world and recognise and reward the exceptional standard of food and drink available in the UK .

The Awards have carved a reputation over the last decade as the single most sought after seal of real quality in speciality food and drink. Over 150 judges are involved and it falls to them to decide which foods deliver a high enough standard to be awarded Gold, Silver and Bronze - the highest acknowledgement of craftsmanship and dedication in the making of superb food and drink.

Bala was amazed as this is the first time she has entered her chocolates into any competition. “I was entering just for the experience and thought if I win Bronze Ill be over the moon. Just imagine my delight when I won Gold!!” said Bala.

Inspired by the film Chocolat and following much research and a distance learning course in making chocolates, Bala Croman decided to start selling her chocolates through farmers’ markets, including Wirral, in 2005. They have been such a success she opened her first shop in March this year. As well as creating delicious chocolates and unique truffles, using her own recipes, she also does chocolate tasting parties, wedding favours and custom made chocolates.

Bala said “It is important to appreciate good chocolate for what it is. I have a passion for chocolate and want to share it with everyone!  We will be celebrating Chocolate Week which takes place from 16th to 22nd October this year”  The shop will also be taking part in the Worlds Biggest Coffee Morning on Friday 29th September in aid of Macmillan Cancer.
